My iPod is currently in a sad state of affairs. It plays any songs on it without difficutly, I can view photos that I have stored on it, and it otherwise functions as expected…until I plug it into a computer. The computer groans and grinds to a halt and eventually iTunes (version 7 I might add) opens and tells me that my iPod appears to be corrupt. I have disk mode enabled on my iPod and if I try and click on the removable device that is my iPod in my windows explorer, the computer basically hangs for about 30 seconds as Windows tries, unsuccessfully, to contact the iPod. It comes up with an error stating that the disk is not formatted and would I like to format it now. When I choose to have it formatted, Windows will eventually start that process and about a half hour later will tell me that it can’t format the drive.
So, I’ve set out to try and restore the iPod to factory conditions using iTunes 7. However, when I click on the restore button, it always tells me that I don’t appear to have an internet connection and try again later when I do. This is annoying because I obviously have an internet connection, I’ve been browsing the iTunes store for the past several minutes and I’m using the web to write this message. So I can’t format it, I can’t restore it to factory conditions, and simply resetting the iPod seems to do nothing for the situation.
I’ve read that there are lots of problems with iTunes 7 and I’m curious if it was trying to install some sort of firmware update on my iPod and that failed somehow - leaving me in the lurch. I think my next step will be to try and revert back to iTunes 6 to see if I can get any improvement. If I can even find iTunes 6 for download any longer, who knows. I’m curious if any of you out there have had issues with iTunes 7 and your iPod? Or just iTunes 7 in general? The new interface looks good, but I wouldn’t have upgraded had I known it was so buggy at this time.
