Writing that last entry may have been just the inspiration that I needed to get my butt in gear and solve this problem. I did some more reading and discovered that others had been having my same issue. They had found out that the culprit was a corrupted picture file on their iPod. They too were unable to restore the iPod using iTunes 7.0. So….I utilized my work computer which still had iTunes 6.0.5 installed and an old version of the iPod updater software that shipped with an older iPod, provided by one of my coworkers.

Miraculously, the older iPod updater software was able to restore my iPod. At this point, I could tell that the iPod updater software was for an older iPod, as the graphics displayed on the screen were much different than they previously were - they looked…older…for lack of a better adjective. However, at this point I was able to take the iPod to my main workstation at work, running iTunes 7.0, and use iTunes to restore it sucessfully. Everything appears to be functioning properly at this point - granted I haven’t been able to test copying music back to the iPod seeing as I don’t have any music on my work computer.

So, score one for my coworker who so graciously provided me with the older iPod software CD that seemed to be able to give my iPod the proverbial “boot in the butt” that it so badly needed.
