Kirsten and I were home this weekend visiting my family in Illinois. One thing I always look forward to about visiting my family is waking up to a full coffee pot on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. They always have the best kinds of coffee - their sort of fanatics you might say. This weekend was no exception. I’ve never had Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee before, let alone realize that you can purchase it whole bean or ground by the pound. I’ve always heard that Dunkin’ Donuts has good coffee, but I’ve just never been to one to test this theory.
My parents had a bag of ground Dunkin’ Donuts’ original blend this weekend and I must say that it was phenomenal. I really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I came home and this Monday ordered two pounds over their website. I chose one pound of their original blend and one pound of their hazelnut blend. The only draw back to this is that their shipping costs are a bit steep - almost the same price as one pound of coffee to have the two pounds shipped UPS Ground. Oh well, small price to pay for such great coffee.
The other piece of “news” I have to report is that I discovered the existence of National Novel Writing Month this past Monday. National Novel Writing Month is an annual event that takes place starting November 1st at midnight and ends midnight on November 30th. Now not many of you may know that I’m an aspiring writer. The trouble I always have is finding the time to sit down and actually get words on the page. That’s one reason I think I’ll enjoy this activity. It’s focus is on quantity rather than quality. The goal is to get a 175 page novel (50,000 words or so) by November 30th. This equates to approximately 1,700 words per day.
There is actually quite a thriving community at the website I linked to above. There are apparently many who go through this process. It will be interesting to see just how difficult it is to pound out 175 pages in 30 days. This month might hold many long nights for me as I attempt to get my requisite number of words down on the page. I already have a basic plot outline which I’m excited about. I’ll post updates on my progress here and come December 1st, hopefully I’ll have a working novel which I can post for your enjoyment….or mockery….either way.
