Last year at the beginning of January I made some technology resolutions for 2006. I had never really made resolutions of any kind in the past and I thought that making them public, like posted to this website for example, would help me stay motivated to achieve them. Well, I was wrong. Let’s take a quick look at what I wanted to accomplish this year:
- Achieve Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician certification. Man, I’m no closer to this one than I was when I wrote the resolutions last year. I really just decided not to take the test, although I think I could pass it if I did. I would just need some brushing up via the texts available out there. I sort of dread this kind of thing right now because it’s not really computer knowledge that I want to study.
- Achieve one other Microsoft certification. Same as above. No where nearer on this than at this time last year.
- Learn HTML/XHTML/CSS. I should have quantified this one better. I would say that at the end of this year I do have a stronger understanding of these web standards. However, I don’t think I’ve mastered them by any means. So I’ll call this one complete.
- Learn Microsoft SMS. I have accomplished this one. I am much stronger with SMS and now how to make it do my bidding. That’s not to say that we’re using it a whole lot at work right now, Ghost is just so much faster and easier, but SMS does have its uses.
- Get an MP3 player of some kind. Done! I purchased a 30GB video iPod last March before Kirsten and I went on our cruise.
- Grow Stronger on Mac OS X. Done! I have done a lot more with the Mac platform this year. Although it technically wasn’t in 2006, I did go to Mac OS X training last week: troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Build a Desktop Computer. Done! I build this last February. It’s great, I love it!
- Upgrade my TiVo. Haven’t done this one yet. Kirsten and I really haven’t run into a situation where we have found we need the extra storage capacity. I’ll wait until we’re ready to purchase a new TiVo box for this one. The nice and shiny dual tuner TiVo series II looks nice.
- Install and Run Linux for a month. Done! I have been running Linux at home now for a while. I have made strides in learning about the Linux environment as well. I hope to do more with this operating system in the coming year. I would find it really useful to become proficient at the *nix command line.
- Transfer CD collection to the computer, catalog CDs in database. Not done. Ugh. This is the project that just won’t go away. I would say that I have half Kirsten and I’s CDs in the computer at this point. It’s not so much that I don’t want to do it as I don’t want to do it. I’ll get this one done this year though.
There you have it. In 2006 I was 6/10 on resolutions. I don’t think that’s half bad! Now, to ponder the resolutions for next year!

um, are you are aware that you have Cinderella on your sidebar? I’m guessing you are and I’m guessing I know somewhat where it comes from, but I would love to hear the story.
There’s a Cinderella in my sidebar? Where?
I swear it was there!
[...] in 2006, I posted my technology resolutions for the coming year. I then reviewed the resolutions at the end of the year to see how I had fared. Similarly, at the start of 2007 I posted my technology resolutions for [...]
