Where I Write (Blog and Novel)

November 5th, 2007 by Benjamin

I’m doing a lot of writing this month. I started all over the apartment. Some writing in my easy chair (as was depicted in the previous post), some in the bedroom, and some in the office. I decided that to consistently get into the zone and really let the words flow, I’d need to provide some sort of consistency across the board. Some place where I can sit down and my brain realizes “hey, if we’re here, that must mean it’s time to write!” Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, the office:

Office Desk in 2nd Bedroom

I know that the picture isn’t much, but I just wanted to get something up here to show you guys. I wrote a couple of months ago about how I wanted to be using more pictures in my postings, well I’m really trying to make good on that desire this month!

The whole setup isn’t too much to look at, but it’s comfortable at least.  The desk is from IKEA, I believe that Mark and Rebekah have the same one (they had it first in all fairness).  The chair is a cheapo from Staples purchased on sale several years ago - it’s comfortable and that’s my only requirement.  You can barely see my computer perched on the floor to the right of the desk.  I built it in January of 2006.  It will be my main writing word processing platform for the month of November.  A Dell 19″ LCD panel, Microsoft Cordless Desktop 6000, and Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround computer speakers round out the computer setup.

You’ll notice that the desk comes complete with shelves stuffed with papers waiting to be filed away in our filing cabinet (or waste paper basket).  Not able to be seen in this picture is my Ubuntu 6.10 Dapper Drake LAMP server, sitting behind the desk drawers.  It’s connected via KVM switch to the keyboard and mouse.  The black cord seen running along the wall goes to our HP Office Jet 6200 printer/copier/scanner/fax machine.

So there it is folks, my blogging/writing center.  Alright, so here it is, my call to action.  Post on your own sites about your blogging/computing centers with at least one picture, and link up in the comments.  I’m going to try and start a Flickr photo set containing more pics of my office area.
