What Online Music Store Do You Use?

January 3rd, 2008 by Benjamin

I’ve been itching to purchase some music again recently and I’m curious to see what music store you guys are currently using? I was a Napster subscriber for about a year and then decided I didn’t like the DRM-ridden model that the service is based upon. In fact, I’m sick of DRM on my music at all, just one more reason I’m shying away from further iTunes purchases (unless I use their iTunes plus non-DRM program).

I’ve recently heard good things about eMusic. My only problem there is that it is mostly a site for independent artists and their music. My tastes are traditionally more mainstream than that.

I’ve read good and bad things about Amazon’s new MP3 download service. I’m very tempted to try it however: it’s all DRM free, it runs through Amazon’s already easy to use web interface, and there’s a client you could download if you want an even more streamlined experience.

So what store do you use for purchasing your tunes online?

I have only used iTunes so far, but I am contemplating this emusic thing.

(I think Mark is under commission from emusic, can you confirm or refute?)

I’m late to the discussion, but Amazon’s service is really compelling. Higher bitrate, lower price compared to iTunes and no DRM.

The only question mark is the selection — so far I’ve found everything I was looking for but YMMV.
