WordPress Plugins

November 19th, 2007 by Benjamin

Beyond Akismet, I’ve never really delved too deeply into WordPress plugins.  Recently, however, I’ve started to explore the possibilities out there and have come up with some real useful tools.  What follows is my current list of WordPress plugins:

  • FeedSmith from Feedburner.com - converts mybuilt-in WordPress feeds to use my FeedBurner feed.
  • Smilies Themer (my Wife didn’t like WordPress’s built-in smilies) - use different sets of Smilies in your posts/comments
  • WP-Cache - speed up your WordPress site by using caching
  • WP-Polls (not implemented yet, but I’m working on it) - use AJAX-ish polls in your posts or on pages
  •  WP-DB-Backup - Allows for quick and easy on demand backups of your WordPress database

For you WordPress users out there, what plugins are you using that I should be checking out?  There are plenty of resources for doing research on WP Plugins, but I’m interested in advice from the trenches.
